Probably one of the sillier questions here but, the journal, Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences of the United States of America, is usually referred to as PNAS. I was planning to approach a professor about a publication he had in the journal, and was curious how to pronounce it, so I don't sound dumb. Is it pronounced P-N-A-S, P-Naz, etc.?

Thanks All

I have almost always heard it called "P-N-A-S". Don't say P-Naz.

Haha, thank you. The reason I asked the question was because intuition told me to pronounce it P-Naz, but thought that sounded kind of 'off' 😛 Anyone here it any other ways?

I've also heard it with the letters only. P-naz just sounds like penis with a ghetto inflection.

You make me feel old. We had that joke in probably 3rd or 4th grade.

I think that joke's been around for a while. It's a testament to my sheltered childhood that I only encountered it in middle school, and then it was on the wrong side of the joke 😳.

I don't know about everyone else, but everyone in the Lab I work in (and actually everyone I have talked to in our Chem department) calls it P-Nas...
