RMIVUXG (Radio, Micro, Infrared, Visible, Ultraviolet, X-rays, Gamma)

Can't come up with one as clever as ROYGBIV. I'll try a search.

Realized I spelled mnemonic wrong. Don't flame.

why would you ever need a mnemonic for this? you'll probably only need to know the IR, visual (roygbiv) and UV and above

i always just think of what i would rather get hit with, UV or Xray. 🙂

When I read your thread I tried to make up something funny with a hint of truth to it...and now I'll remember it too!😉

I made up one of my own. I don't know if this will help you, but going from Radiowave to Gamma rays this was the made up mneumonic that I used:

Roxy Mae Is Visualizing Uncle's Xbox and Game cube.

R = Radiowave
M = Microwave
I = IR
V = Visual
U = Ultraviolet
X = Xray
G = gamma ray.

Hope that helps.

hm...if you have a clue about the relative wave leangths for each ray, or the energy output you would not have to remember this mneumonic.

Does one have to memorize the spectrum for the test? Can their be a discrete such as which of the following has lowest energy or highest wavelength or something like that?

Unhealthy,
X-pecially
Grilled

I know it isn't the best. I hope it helps.

And if you knew anything about redox reactions, you wouldn't need to use LeoGer or Oil-Rig, Red Cat(hode) and An(ode) ox.

Or if you knew anything about algebra you wouldn't need to know PEMDAS.
Or if you could look at a rainbow you wouldn't need to know roygbiv.

But unless you have been working with it for years, chances are you're not gonna "just know it" for the exam. Not to mention it is a TIMED test: every little device helps. It's a lot easier to remember a mnemonic than all of the particular (or even relative) frequencies and energies of all 7 types of light/radiation.

Chances are, this isn't even going to be tested on your particular MCAT (and at best it'll be 1 question). But it's quick and easy points if you can rattle off something like MIVUX.

MIVUX is my personal favorite so far.

Just think it through logically

Radio Waves have to be the weakest you can hear them...can a radiowave heat your food?
Then are microwaves [micro...small, also used to heat whatnot]
Infrared [below red]
Visible
UV [above violet]
X-Ray [more dangerous than UV]
Gamma [in nuclear theory they are those pieces of energy thing and can go through you or something like that]

Grandmas xrated underpants are visible in my room

From highest frequency to lowest:

Gamma
Xray
Ultraviolet
Visible light
Infrared
Microwaves
Radio waves.

Hope this helps 🙂

I got you homie.

though, it's really not that hard to remember them w/o a mnemonic. it feels kind of intuitive to me...
