One of my top choices for DO schools is PNWU, however, I have no experience with rural or underserved healthcare. Would this make it or break it? I have no idea how I would answer the secondary if I were to receive one.

I heard this year PNWU is especially strict about students having at least a month ( maybe more) of rural experience.

So is it worth it to go to my II as a California resident? I do live in a rural area though.

Not when they probably accept 500/840 outright and then probably a decent chunk go on the WL wth some significant WL movement. It sounds a lot worse than it is.

PNWU is probably my top choice at the moment, but I do not have any rural experience. Do you guys think this will be a major decision factor?

I'm wondering if I should be worried about this too. They accept the most Idaho students out of any DO school (barring ICOM opening up next cycle) and figured they were my best shot, but I'm from the Boise/Meridian area which isn't exactly rural. :S

Yes your ties to their region as well as experiences working in a rural area are probably the biggest factors they look at. I spoke with someone from admissions after I was rejected and she that my numbers were fine but that I did not have any experience working a rural area. Good luck to you all!

Don't they also look for experience with the underserved too in case you don't have any rural experience?

Sorry to bump this thread but with regards to rural experience, does that have to be family med/IM experience in a rural area or just clinical experience in a rural area. I currently work for an ophthalmologist in a town of 20k but I have some volunteer medical experience in a free clinic in the area.

Accepted at PNWU. No experience working with rural healthcare. However, family is from a rural town. I mentioned that.
