A new guideline recently published recommends periodic testing for people taking antipsychotics to verify presence of the drug.
Cohen AN, Collins G, Nucifora FC Jr, Strobel R, Wait DB, Young AS. Clinical consensus recommendations for urine testing of adherence to antipsychotics among people with serious mental illness. Psychiatr Serv. 2017. doi: 10.1176/appi.ps.201700082
This seems like a good idea as it can yield important data to enhance treatment. It would be most useful if it could be done on the spot during a visit. I have seen some passing references to point-of-care urine tests to detect antipsychotics but I can't find any information on whether these are commercially available. Anyone know?
