How are these 3 sectional atlas's different from the one pocket book above? Is there more detail or emphasis put on each sectional atlas's?

I would love to get my hands on a pocket atlas. It sounds convenient to carry around, especially when commuting from school to home. Thank you.

In browsing through the excerpt provided, I'm really impress with how closely the scan matches the depicted drawing. I was also wondering if there are any pictures that depicts abnormalities, such as cysts/tumors and the ability to differentiate those abnormal scans?

Unfortunately, we don't have online support or iphone compatiable programming for the Pocket Atlas of Sectional Anatomy.


How often are these atlases updated?



We are happy to say that we are constantly adding to, revising, and releasing new and updated versions of the Pocket Atlas of Sectional Anatomy. This series began in 1994 and we released the third edition in 2007.



I have bought pocket books in the past and have not been able to fit them in my pocket what are the dimensions of this book?



Each volume of the Pocket Altas of Sectional Anatomy is a softcover book that weighs less than one pound with the following dimensions:

> These book demonstare sectional anatomy in great detail on CT and MR images and on corresponding drawings. Each CT or MR image is paired with the correspondiong drawing on a double page. The drawings contain numbers that refer to labels placed below the drawings.

Pocket Atlas of Sectional Anatomy

Q1: How similar are the cross-sectional images in Volume 1 to those depicted in the Haines text "Neuroanatomy: An Atlas of Structures, Sections, and Systems"? Would you recommend either of these volumes for a medical student starting a radiology rotation?

The Pocket Atlas of Cross Sectional Anatomy is a smaller more pocket size book. As a result some images may be larger in Haines, but the Pocket Atlas contains new CT and MRI images and has a strong clinical component so it is relevent to both the student and clinical environment. Haines has been more popular in the basic science course but I recommend the Pocket Atlas as perfect as you work and move from the fundamental into your clinical experiences.

Q1: are the questions at the end multiple choice USMLE style? How comprehensive are explanations?

The ATLAS of ANATOMY by Gilory, MacPherson, and Ross published by Thieme is an excellent ATLAS used throughout the world. Published less than one year ago it has been adopted in countless gross anatomy programs. It has study aids including tables & charts throughout which are designed for USMLE preparation and general study efforts. In addition there is a pass code on the inside jacket that will get you to additional content and questions on www.winkingskull.com which has been recognized as an ideal prep and study tool. The information contained in these two study vehicles is very comprehensive.

Q1: I have used the Netter cards before and while I like them, I could really use cards oriented to MRI and CT sections. Do these cards provide CT and MRI images. I am especially interested for Head and Neck anatomy since I will be applying for ENT residency. Thanks.

Thank you for your interest. The Thieme ANATOMY FLASH CARDS do provide radiographs - mri's and ct scans. The Netter Atlas is a fine atlas but a long time complaint has been that it has little to no radiographs, same as the cards. We are pleased that there are radiographs throughout all sections of our Atlas and the Thieme FLASH CARDS. In addition, check out the Thieme Atlas of Anatomy in Head and Neuroanatomy if this is an area of special interest for you.

Q1: I have a PhD in Physiology and am looking to teach during and after residency. How helpful would this text be for preparing lectures and do you provide resources to educators? Thanks.

Thank you for your interest. The 6th edition of the Thieme COLOR ATLAS of PHYSIOLOGY just published. It follows the tradional Flexi layout of full color images on one page and text on the opposing or opposite page. This book is extremely popular, especially with instructors because of its thorough and complete information on human physiology. It is pocket size but not like so many other books that conatin nothing but Q&A in preparation for national boards. This book is great for class adoption and text use or as a reference in class prep, etc for the more prepared physiologist such as yourself.

The books are not scaled-down versions. They were developed as original titles and the concept was planned especially for the size, type, and readership of the books. There are no clinical correlations or questions in the books, just normal sectional anatomy. For this type of information you should have a look at our 3-volume Thieme Atlas of Anatomy or the one-volume version called Gilroy: Atlas of Anatomy.
