Does anyone recommend any of the specific pocketbooks for wards, like Tarascons or others? Are these actually helpful - especially when just starting out? If so, which ones are best? Especially for Peds, Surgery, IM.
Thanks

I like Schwartz' Clinical Handbook of Pediatrics. So far everything I've been pimped on has been something I could find in this book (which, admittedly, is pretty large for a handbook). It's also great for pulling a treatment plan out of your rear for whatever your peds patient presents with.

Maxwell's is pretty good no matter what rotation you are on.

Pocket medicine is what I use for IM/FM. For surgery our program gave us a "survival packet" and I just folded that up and kept it in my white coat along with Sabitson's print outs for whatever surgeries I had to scrub that day. I didn't have anything in my pockets for peds.
