Hello all!

I am planning on applying to all 9 podiatric med schools this fall. I have a 3.39 overal gpa, 3.0 science gpa going into my senior year. But heres the problem, I took the MCAT this past july and I recieved my scores a few days ago and I only got a 19! I'm not sure what happened because I was scoring around 23-25 on 3 practice AAMC's test. With this being said do I have a legitimate shot at podiatry school admission with my current gpa and MCAT? If so, which ones would I have the best odds? I have recommendation letters from 2 podiatrists, an acedemic advisor, and one bio/one psy teacher that are in the process of being finished/sent to the schools. I want to go to either Scholl or DMU, but I'd go farther away from my hometown if I had to.

I'm wanting to retake the MCAT on one of the last dates this september, but I can't afford another test. I would consider it Jan2010 when I can afford it. Should I apply with my current stats? If you get rejected, but retake the mcat, can you re-apply in the same cycle if you have higher scores/gpa?

I don't see that you have a shot, I don't know if you can apply to the same cycle; call and ask if you can without mentioning your scores or name. Definitely not gonna get u into DMU. Not even sure it will get you into NYCPM. I have no clue about Barry, I have heard that all you need to get in is a heart beat.

While your GPA isn't too bad, it probably won't be enough to compensate for your MCAT score. If you apply early and look at those schools that have larger incoming class sizes, you might get accepted. Although I don't go to either Scholl or DMU, I am pretty sure both schools have higher average entrance stats than what you have. The MCAT is going to be your biggest issue at either school. Rather than spending the money on applying to all 9 schools, I would suggest spending money on retaking the MCAT. It would be a much better use of the $$, IMHO.

👍 agreed.

The problem is that you took 3 practice tests. Did you feel that you would succeed with such little preparation? If you did not take the MCAT seriously, how will you do in school?

I suggest applying to the school in Ohio. I know the min mcat for a interview is 20. However, I know a friend last year who got a interview offer at the ohio school witth a 16mcat and similar GPAs. He did not go for the interview but I think interview offers are like 85% or higher acceptance or conditional acceptances if the applicant can score a 20 on mcat or something like that. Don't bother applying to all 9 schools, you will just waste your money. just apply to the ohio school and spend the rest of your $ buying some good mcat prep books and retake that darn test. Trust Me!
