I am a first-year medical student at a great allopathic (M.D.) program. I initially applied to DPM, MD, and DO schools and went for this program.
I want to mention that throughout all the medical field podiatrists get all the respect any other specialist doctor gets. It seemed that when I was applying a lot of my idiot friends didn't understand the huge magnitude that DPM's go through to practice. Also, many articles and admissions committees did not seem to understand why application numbers were down (at the time). Now that I am in this MD program, I still daydream about knowing as much as a podiatrist about the lower extremity (gait analyses, incredibly complex surgeries, the welcoming atmosphere of podiatry as a field).
Just my $.02. Keep up the great work! lf
