Hi all, I am new to the Student Doctor Network and also in seek of advice. I am finishing up my second semester at a local community college and started off very poorly (Anxiety). First semester GPA was a 2.8. Second semester I have three B's so far. I have realized that GPA is a huge deal and I am ready to commit 100% to my studies starting next term. Although, I have not started any volunteering, shadowing, or participated in any EC's. I recently applied for a volunteer position at a hospital if that would help me at all. I have no clue on how to begin shadowing either. I spoke to my GP and he wouldn't even spend two minutes with me answering a few questions. Can someone please give me some good advice on where to begin? I would also like to see some honest responses about my first year GPA. Is it salvageable?

Your GPA is obviously not impressive however there is still time to roll up your sleeves and work hard to get that back up. I really wouldn't suggest you do any EC's until you work on your study habits. Focus on getting the best grades you can than gradually start adding on EC's and research and whatever else you want. Your grades are your priority because no amount of extracurriculars can make up for a lack luster GPA. Oh and if that anxiety is serious, see a medical professional about that.

I understand. Grades will be my top priority from now on. I'm relieved to know that I still have a shot at this. I am also seeking help for my anxiety. Thanks for the advice.

Excellent 👍 You definitely still have a chance with a strong upward trend. Good luck next semester. Feel free to do a search on here for studying tips if you need to.
