Hi everyone,

I am just finishing up my Sophomore year and want some advice on what I need to do to make myself a competitive applicant when I apply in 2017. I am a 21 soon to be 22 year old African American Female living Arizona. I transferred to a university this year from community college where I took Bio I and II along with some other general classes my GPA there was 2.714 this year at a 4 year university my GPA is at 3.18. The only science classes that I have taken so far at CC are Bio I, II each with a B. At my university I took Genetics and got a B and Gen Chem a C. In terms of EC's I have about 100 hours of clinical volunteering and no other EC's except a PT job that I have had for about 2 years.

I am looking for advice on what I need to do to make sure that when I apply I have an on par GPA, the right amount of EC's and MCAT. I have an idea of what I need but would like some outside advice.
Thanks.

When I first enrolled at community collegee I didn't actually study at all. I pretty much would show up listen to what the professor had to say do the work and take a test without much effort. However when I got to university and took Genetics and was failing to keep up I started studying by reviewing the material throughly and made it out with a high B. So I do think that I do have an effective plan now. It also helped that my life situation had improved to allowing me the time needed to be studying in the way that I needed.

Good to hear. Another tip - sometimes people process information differently. I re-read my notes and book and I can remember most of the details, but other times, people need more visual or auditory input in order to make something stick. You could sort of feel it out with different study materials and methods and see which ones help you retain things the best.

Keep that upward trend pointing upward.
