I am taking a Kaplan class and they said there are only 2 polar bodies, but I've learned before that 3 polar bodies exist. Which is true?
I guess it depends on How they ask the question.... if they ask How many there are at the end of meiosis 2, wouldn't you say 2 polar bodies?
Ah okay so the first polar body might not go through meiosis 2. That's the discrepancy.
ah ok. Thank you for the explanation.
So let me get this clear. When the primary oocyte finishes meiosis 1 it produces the secondary oocyte along with a polar body (this polar body can continue with meiosis 2 but the two daughter cells disintegrate). Then later during fertilization when the secondary oocyte finishes meiosis 2 it produces an egg and another polar body? can this other polar body also undergo meiosis 2 or does it just disintegrate right away?
