Never realized what the big fuss was about having mandatory lecture, but after having these last few days canceled due to the extreme cold in the midwest, I realized how nice is it to be able to study all day without attending pointless lectures. There is no other point to this thread other than making sure I can eventually attend a school without mandatory lecture. 🙂

I was hoping for campus to shut down due to inclement weather but it didn’t happen. Luckily I do have a pretty high tolerance for cold and the vortex didn’t hit my state that bad.

I feel the same way - I'm also stuck in the middle of the polar vortex! I'm a visual learner and listening to a professor lecture actually distracts me from being able to form mental pictures in my mind. I feel like I am grasping the material so much better and faster because I can learn on my own. It's a shame my classes are all so small that my professors will know if I skip a class 🙁

As an auditory learner, I find lectures to be incredibly helpful. It is so interesting to hear about other people whose style is so different from my own. Many medical schools seem to understand that one size does not fit all, and are letting students self-direct to focus on what works for them. Here's hoping that everyone gets what they want (or at least what they need) in medical school.
