Hey guys, I have a quick question. What is more polar Br bonded to an Si or a Br bonded to an C?

Members don't see this ad.

There is a greater difference in electronegativity between Br and Si, so the Si bond is more polar.

i would disagree with you souslepont...

i think Br bonded to C is more polar than Br bonded to Si since the electronegativity difference is higher b/w Br and C..
As you remember, electronegativity INCREASES UP the group and ACROSS the period..

therefore, C is more electronegative than Si...
Br will pull e- tighter towards itself since its more electronegative than C (more polar).

hope i helped

if you google the electronegativity numbers for this elements you will find that

there is higher difference in C-Si bond, which makes it more polar.

100% correct !!!!!!!!!
