what's the policy for missing class for med school interview. I don't really wanna have to tell all my professors, it'll become a hassle. How did you guys approach this?

what about labs..i have several important intense labs that will be hard to make up...is it possible to schedule interviews on Mondays, so that i can fly out on sunday and fly in monday night to be ready for class the next day, tuesday.

Depending on when and how the particular med school assigns interview days, you may have a lot or very little flexibility. Don't expect to have too much flexibility in the day though, some schools only interview on certain days of the week or only have a few interview days at all.

Second, you're going to need to tell your prof unless they don't care about missing class. I imagine most profs will be pretty cool about it, provided you're not going to like 20 interviews and missing class every week. But so long as you keep up with the work and do the assignments and tests, most profs will try to help you out with letting you make stuff up or take it early if you let them know in advance (i.e. not the day after the test). Telling them at the beginning of the course that you're applying to med school and may need to miss a few classes may make it easier later and they're already aware (even if they don't remember) and don't think you're just trying to get out of things or make excuses.

If people skip classes to play Madden, GTA, or just to sleep, I feel like professors would be fine with you missing to interview at a professional school. Just give them enough heads up.

Agreed. Just let them know a week in advance or so, and then remind them again a couple of days before. In terms of lab, you should tell your professor about missing it as soon as you find out that you're going to miss it so that arrangements can be made. Professors who teach mostly upper level classes and have mostly seniors understand the importance of interviews so usually, as long as you tell them beforehand, they'll be fine with it.

Just let your profs know. All of mine where cool with it. Besides, attendance isn't mandatory for most classes. It does suck trying to keep up with the work, however. I went on almost 20 interviews, and that definitely took a toll on me!

Almost 20 interviews?! Damn. How much did that end up costing you? I would hate to have to fly that much these days with airline prices being what they are.

Kudos to you. 👍

I drove to almost all of them except for ones that more than a 10 hour drive away. Thankfully I'm in the Northeast, so a lot of the schools I applied to weren't ridiculously far away. Even still, I accrued a lot of costs due to staying in hotels, gas (although back then it was closer to 3 and change per gallon ::shudders:🙂. Definitely would not have been able to fly to all of them though!

if you guys are traveling to interviews by plane, are you guys buying a plane/rental car package...how are u guys getting to your hotels? how are you guys traveling to interviews far away
