Ok, here's my regimen for polishing my crown or diagnostic waxups:

1) smooth everything out wiht a hot instrument
2) Scrape everything with the carver
3) rub everything completely smooth with the burnisher
4) Use a tooth brush to remove any flash
5) shine everything using panty hose
6) use a cue tip and soap and water to shine it up
7) panty hose again.

Is there anything else that'll really give the wax a good bright luster. It's pretty shiny now, but i'd like to see my reflection a little clearer in it.

is there any kind of finishing coat that i can apply or something like that?

try using armor all wipes before you turn it in...the shine lasts longer than using debubblizer and other things...

You can also soak a cotten roll in soapy water, run the cotten through a flame and scrub your waxup with that. Remember not to put any chemicals on your waxup (other than debubblizer) for the real deal... casting crowns and all.

Nose/forehead grease. It's free and it works like magic. Someone told me this once and I didn't believe it but one day I said f-it and tried it and haven't stopped since. Make sure to eat a greasy meal the night before

I asked our biomaterials professor about that and he said that I could try it, but he thought it was make the wax begin to dissolve basically and moisture would be lost to evaporation and my waxups would crack and lose their sheen faster.

I don't know if he meant after a couple weeks or what though, i think i'll try that on an extra waxup tomorrow though.

Isn't that the same as just using really hot water with soap and the cue tip? that's usually what i use.

I've tried that, but it doesn't seem to last that long, it's like 12 hours later it's evaporated away and leaves somewhat of a residue. And i use an oil remover in the shower, so i don't have much at all to work with.

Very true (and you aren't the first person to post this).

drop by the local jr high school, there should be an abundance of forehead grease there

all joking aside, nose grease is the best shiner there is. i'd sell you some of mine if you want

Maybe its because I've always had such an incredibly greasy face but...

I am SICKED out...and I have a strong stomach... :barf:

shoe polish on a sponge --> I get perfect finishes on my projects (unfortunate that I can't say the same about my anatomy) 😀

stick it in the freezer for a few minutes then use something like spandex, lycra-- an old womans swimsuit or speedo is great

if you get grossed out from nose grease, i'd hate to be in your gross anatomy group.. lots of fun fluids to work with when your dissecting a cadaver

I remember when we were dissecting a cat during biology in high school. A girl, who was working with our group, got a squirt of some nasty fluid out of that cat right into her glasses :barf: . Immediately, she threw up back on the poor cat. I knew something funny would happen even before we got the real feeling of “gross” high school anatomy class

all the gross things mentioned above work. however, using soap or debubblizer would work just as well.

and speaking of wax ups, i just finished waxing #30 for a full gold crown. i hated it. 👎

I waxed up 19 and 3 with everything mounted and as much of a pain in the ass it was, i didn't mind it. It was pretty cool to see the finished product and we'll cast them in july.

Tried Reprosil? Takes like 15 minutes if you get a good impression before you start your prep 👍

is reprosil simply making a negative impression and extruding onto the prep?
