I still have one LOR outstanding and the attending actually happens to be a friend. I have emailed him once with an updated address for our student affairs office and my AAMC ID (subtle hint). Any suggestions for a polite reminder?

Thanks

I would call and actually talk to him. I hate e-mail for these kinds of things because they might not reply and you'll have no idea what's going on.

email can be your friendliest reminder or utterly useless
I know attendings that get ~150 emails a day
you think they read through all of them?

I would first try their secretary and then leave phone messages
then I would just show up and wait to see them face to face

when did you last contact them? More than 1 week?-->call his secretary. attendings tend to forget things; you need to be aggressive about this.

Send a thank you note to him/her for writing your letter of rec. It is good manners to send one and it will serve to jog the memory.
