Poll: A&P vs biochem more useful on MCAT?

After reading the recent thread about A&P vs biochem before the MCAT I thought I'd make a poll on it. I was surprised to see how evenly spread the opinions were.

This is a no-brainer. I can't emphasize enough how important A&P is on the mcat. You've got to know it or can't do well in bio section. As for the biochem, very little you need to know, except for the basics of metabolism, gene expression, etc. most of which is covered in a basic genetics/cell bio course.

i never took anatomy and physiology but still got an 11 on the BS.

i guess it all depends on what form of the mcat you get. some might have more stuff that is biochem related and other forms might have stuff that has more a&p. most of us prolly only took the mcat once or twice so our views will only reflect which test we had.

ill still vote biochem, but both classes will help you out i bet...

I never took biochem and did quite decent in bio PS and BS. I distinctly remember a large number of questions on hormone systems that A&P covered.

this must be the case. based on my mcat, i'd say biochem too. but others have said they had no biochem on their exam.

for the most part it would seem so. not complex enough to where you need to take an upperdiv genetics class.

Might be different elsewhere, but Biochem at my school is very critical-thinking oriented (very good for MCAT). Physiology seems more like a memorization fest. A couple months with a review book should give you all the physiology you need.

I think biochem was most helpful for the mcat....

I never took A&P and did very well on the bio section.

I guess it depends on your personal strengths, but I felt Biochem was VERY helpful.....

BIOCHEM!!!

I did not take anatomy or physiology, and I wasn't a hard science major. Still I managed to score >90th percentile in both science sections. Biochem definitely helped.

Anatomy is not a big deal, on the MCAT. Physiology is probably more important than anatomy IMO. Biochem, specifically the metabolism portion is pretty helpful.

I personally took the MCAT without taking anatomy of physiology, got a 11 on the bio section. I find that aslong as you take a prep course and attend the lectures on physiology, you should be good to go.

A&P is all memorization. No doubts about that. If you have a photographic memory, even more reason why there isn't an urgent need to take those classes. I say go with Biochem, since it seems to cover a lot of areas from Ochem, enzymes, and metabolism. More bang for you buck i think.

I got a 13BS and 13PS without having taken physics, anatomy, or physio in college (physics I ap'd). Take the class you want to or, maybe, just spend more time with the Kaplan (or whatever) books. I took the test the summer after Sophomore year and I think that I was *not* doing regular classwork helped immensely.

I suggest A&P because most of the biology section of the MCAT involves this subject in some way. There is very little biochem. on the MCAT and the studd that is there is pretty easy to learn on your own.
