by popular demand: please indicate how for down your rank list you had to go for those who applied this year.

*hopefully I can figure out how to do this...

BTW- congratulations to everyone.

So it looks like we pretty much have all the votes we are going to get so here are some basic results. Interestingly- 72% that matched did so in their top 3! I don't have numbers from past years, but that sounds pretty good to me. Congratulations to all!!!

A few words of warning to future applicants would be-
1- Don't blow off the rank list- you could very well end up ANYWHERE on it. And if you ranked it, you should be happy with it.
2- Although this is a great forum- don't believe everything you read on this forum, alot of it is very skewed or biased, and sometimes flat wrong. i.e take it with a grain of salt.
3- The trend to apply to more and more programs each year (47 now!) is hurting everyone (programs and applicants alike) likely causing some people and even more programs to end up further down their rank list than they like. I have heard many programs complain about this- but the ball is really in the applicants court (although there really isn't a great way to end it).
4- I know it is hard during the application process, but relax, be yourself- the match is made to match you where you fit the best. And believe it or not it usually works more than we give it credit. (not to say that there aren't problems with SF match- because there definately are! But they try to change every year to fix the problems- so give honest feedback!)

Good luck to all!

Yea, seems like we aren't doing a good job here Ruben🙂

like what?

Let me clear up my statement a little before I make too many enemies... First off let me say that I really like this forum. I have read it for over 2 years now and it has indeed given me, and many others like me a lot of great advice and insight into experiences that we would not be able to get otherwise. The information given by the attendings and residents is always stellar and I thank you dearly for the time and effort that you put in to help all of us out. Honestly!

However, this is a public forum- and as such has certain inherent problems. One such inherent flaw is that any comment posted is an opinion- and this post is no exception. All opinions need to be taken as such and not always fact. For example this fiasco with SF match. I know of a couple of people that read this forum and honestly thought that SF match would have to be rerun- because a few people posted that SF match screwed up. Now, to the forums credit, over time the matter was resolved- but the forum can cause a lot of controversy or concern as people share theories and concerns. Also concerning any comment by individuals about specific programs- they are opinions, shared from one view point which may or may not agree with anothers view point. I was merely pointing out the fact that everyone reading these posts need to realize that they are opinions.

That being said, I must say that I don't know of any other forum with such great supervision and active participation by a wide variety of people (students, residents, and attendings), and I as well as many others do enjoy reading the thoughts and advice of others. Thanks to everyone for your desire to share your ideas, concerns and advice- I know that many have benefited from them, including myself.

PS JR and Rubensan I think you guys are doing a great job...🙂
