I am curious as to the rates of neurosurgery and marriage. None of the neurosugeons at any of the hospitals I've worked in have been married. They are all practically living at the hospital. I've heard that the single and divorce rate for NS is very high due to its hectic lifestyle.

I need some input from those of you in the field. It's very discouraging, but I would like some reality (not a sugar coated answer.) I know that it is possible to have a family and marriage, (anything is possible with hard work). I just want to know the statistics.

Any of you regret your decison of going into NS?

I'm engaged and a PGY 1 in ns. I don't regret it at all. It is trying, and she has to be very understanding, but it is working fine. Many of my fellow residents are married/engaged/dating someone. You don't have much free time, or much of a social life, but it isn't impossible to make it work.
