Hello people. I've read many posts on this forum and I appreciate all the information you all have shared. I plan to take the GRE general test by the end of September (so I have about 4-5 weeks to study). I suck at math, really SUCK at it! So far I have narrowed my potential study texts to the Kaplan book with the CD, The Princeton Review, and Barrons. Based on some reviews: There's nothing fantastic about the Kaplan Book, Barrons has a great list of words for the Verbal section, otherwise it's full of ERRORS, the PR book has a terrible CD, info in it is OK.

I need a book that will build up my poor math skills (that's my main concern) without ignoring the Verbal/Analytical sections.

Recommendations please.
Thank you so much!

If you go to the website where you register for the gre there is a huge pdf for math review. http://www.ets.org/portal/site/ets/...nnel=d687e3b5f64f4010VgnVCM10000022f95190RCRD

it worked well for me.

the key to succeeding at math is PRACTICE PRACTICE PRACTICE. Reading and studying the concepts doesn't do anything for you until you can apply them to real problems. with whatever book you choose to use, just make sure you have plenty of practice problems to work on. it may take some time but with enough practice you can tackle the math ...good luck! 🙂

Yes, practicing is key for the math portion. It will solidify concepts and help build your confidence. I think a good book is "Cracking the GRE" by the princeton review.

Thank you so much everyone. I appreciate your responses. I agree that I would have to practice a lot to have a better shot at the Quantitative section. I hope I do well on the exam. Thanks again.

Hi!

I loved, loved, loved the Kaplan Platinum Edition GMAT-GRE-LSAT. (40$ at Best Buy...though it may come in single test format too for cheaper?) Anyways it has training sessions with timed problems, games and a number of timed tests that look just like the real thing. This was critical for me...I had a number of those damned books but without the timing I only thought I was progressing! After a few weeks of practice on this CD my scores jumped dramatically and I am completely crediting this product 🙂

:luck:

If you have any specific questions on the GRE math, feel free to PM me. I was an engineer first. I got a 800Q & 780A, so I think I can help you with anything GRE level. 🙂

speaking of GRE math, anyone know if it was re-centered?

i have personally held two GRE score results, one dated 1998, one dated 2006. in both cases, quantitative was 800.

however, in the 1998 copy, the %ile rank was 99, but in the 2006 copy, it was like 93 or 94.

anyone know why the diff?

just curious - did u take the SAT - mind sharing ur score on that test? do the two tests tend to be highly correlated?
