ok...this might not be a normal post. But I have a question about whether being financially disadvantaged have any weight in the application process. Now, it is diff. from racial disadvantages, as in blacks and hispanics not being represented enough. I am an Indian so obviously it gives me no edge, so I can't be racially disadvantaged. But I am only make 18K a year(my rents r in India). Does this help me in any way, and we can generalize this forum to all those who come from not so financially stable environments. Thanks.

Does it help that you're poor? Hell no. Just hope that it doesn't hurt you. As an international student, some schools require that I prove that I can pay for all 4 years. I don't envy any int. student that has to prove they can pay 200K. Good luck 👍

Well, at schools like UCLA and UCSF they seem to care, esp. with regards to how your financial situation was when you were an undergraduate. They ask those kinds of questions explicitly on their secondaries.

If you live in India and earn 18,000 US dollars in India ($1,500 per month) I don't think you are poor. I'd say you probably have an above average standard of living in India based on the gross national product, per capita and other economical factors in India. If you are not a US resident or citizen public schools may not accept you and private schools may want you to show that you can pay at least 240K for your dental education. If you were a US resident or citizen and had financial instabilities I am sure it would be a different scenario.

sorry bout the grammar...i tend to write fast. Anyways, to dat student...notice i said "I MAKE 18000 a year" not my parents. I don't think I can rely on them to finance my education here, as it seems obvious most parents who earn here can't either. Let's understand wut ppl r writing before doing research and wasting ur time on finding GDP and ****.

True but still I think if you are not a US citizen or a permanent resident you must be able to show that you can pay for all the expenses (I am 99% sure). You may want to double check with dental schools.
