Some of the places I am appyling to recomend a prospect student build a portfolio. My problem lies in the fact that i do not know anything about portfolio building. Does anybody have any advice on this? I do not know the structure, nor the content or format of a portfolio. your hel would be apreciated.

Not quite sure I know what you mean by portfolio? Do you mean resume? CV?

I would assume the portfolio is much like any Application, all the same stuff, essays, experiences blah blah.

Maybe if you listed the schools these portfolios are for or a web address we could try to give you some advice. Or do a search for the school's requiring these portfolios in the prepharm forum and contact students who have gone through the admission process at that school.

I am curious because i have never heard a portfolio mentioned on this site before....

Let me start by saying thatnk you for your responses. I was about to lose all hope, because no one was responding. Well, the school I am currently attending (TSU), doesn't require a portfolio but recomends i submit one. UIC (Incarnate Word) also mentions a portfolio on their website. I was told at TSU that it should contain anything I think would be helpfull in showing my assets. I had never heard of this before, but they told me that they recieve several candidates that arrive with a portfolio. I am soo confused about this.

"As entrance to the Feik School of Pharmacy will be an extremely competitive process, anything that you can do to enhance your portfolio will be helpful. Internships, working in the field, additional science courses, and a high science GPA will all be seen as positive additions to your portfolio." ---This is from Incarnate Word website.

For Incarnate Word I just sent them a resume that listed all of my work experience, volunteer experience and extracurriculars in one place. It was about 2 pages long and just went more indepth than you really can on the application.

cool, thanks. so basically it is like a very detailed resume?
