Hello SDN, Im trying to figure out what to do. I am currently retaking a few classes as well as taking intro to organics. My school forces me to take the intro before the 1,2. I go to a quarter school, so I will finish the 2nd orgo in the spring quarter. I am in a little bit of a bind, though. Technically, I can apply next cycle if I can get everything done on time.

I will start studying for the MCAT in the winter quarter ( december). I will continue to take organics, and I may possibly take genetics or micro. I figured that it wouldn't be too bad to take those classes as well as study for MCAT, because there will be lots of overlap. I'm not sure when the best time to take the MCAT in 2013 would be. If I study for 3 months, i can take some time in march. At this time, I would need to submit my application, but I will not have any shadowing or volunteering. Would it be stupid to submit an app with impending volunteering/shadowing hours? I think so. In this case, I would probably volunteer for a few months and then need to send my app in. But, I think it would be too late, yes?

Does this make sense?
One more thing: if I just send my transcripts for AAMCOMAS to calculate my GPAs( it's kind of hard to calculate the science GPA) and don't actually apply, will it piss them off or no? Thanks, I'm in a bind, but I would like to be able to apply next year. I'm assuming you guys will tell me to wait and see what my MCAT is, and if high enough, apply a little late.

Each application cycle typically begins in early June. If you're planning on entering med school beginning fall of 2013, the cycle has already begun and taking the MCAT in March 2013 will not likely be enough time to successfully apply this cycle. March 2013 MCAT should be fine for the 2014 application cycle beginning June 2013 (or April or May MCAT should still let you apply early in the cycle).

You have some time before the next cycle. Get shadowing and volunteering now. Start chatting up professors etc. for letters of recommendation. Do well in your remaining pre-reqs; This is the best prep for MCAT. If you can take some time away from class to study full time for the MCAT, great. If you don't pay and submit what you've entered on aacomas, you won't be a reapplicant... Which is a good thing. 2014 is a much better opportunity for you, IMO.

Thanks alot. Oh yes, I only meant for 2014. I thought the app cycle started earlier for some reason. I just want to avoid having to wait to apply for 2015 at all costs...I need to get in ASAP. I'm 23 and I don't want to be too late getting in!

You're timing sounds great for 2014. Good luck w/ ochem 🙂

23 is perfectly young too, don't worry about that.
