Okay, I figured out the next 2 years of my undergrad and I have hit a wall.

I want to start Medical School in the Fall of 08, but I need to do an internship for my major. This takes 3 mos. and I will be taking it in the summer (july). Therefore, I won't be able to start Med School (should I get in..lol). I really don't want to wait a whole year to start after my internship.

I can move everything ahead if I were to take my General Chem and General Bio classes at my local CC this summer. How will DO schools view this if I do it strictly in the sense of time?

Well I have also asked this same question at some med schools or called the admissions office and I was told that as long as you pass them you should be fine. Now I would say to try and get at least a "B" not less than that in those classes. You should be fine because the rest of the science courses will be taken at your university-- (I'm making an assumption of what you will do after taking the CC classes.). I used to worry about that same thing but now I just do what's best for my situation. So if you are sure this is best for you, then why not go ahead with that plan. I think that you should call the perspective schools you are interested in and ask their advice just to be clear on what they are looking for. Hope this helps!! 👍

As long as you get a B or higher, it should not matter that you went to a local CC to take the classes. Also, if there is no way to work it out with time you do have a few options. You can apply to med school as planned and defer (if accepted) 1 year to complete your internship, or see if there is any way to make plans to complete your degree over two summers after acceptance to med school. Most schools expect you to finish you degree plan, but as long as you make it clear that you intend to finish, you may get a sympathetic ear.

Thank you for your replies. Could anyone else that has any info on this topic please chime in? Is there anyone here that got into Med School by taking a few prereqs at a CC?

Take a look at the thread started by FutureDocHopefl on the Pre-Osteo board. The name of the thread is Chemistry at local college. There are some helpful comments from some other posters. 🙂

I took my gen chem at CC while attending a four year university and was never questioned by anyone from any school.

I didn't take any prereqs at a CC, but I don't see why it should be a problem. In my interviews they talked more about grades than the school that I went to. Good luck.
