Got word DOD is reviewing a change/end to the 90day boots on ground deployments that have been in place for reserve component. Check with your local commands if you wish to give feedback.

I think it could dramatically change recruiting/retention for docs

details, more details. I agree if 90 days turns into 9 months their retention and recruitment will suffer. federal law or not that's a huge hit and I can see being a reservist being seen negatively if there's a chance they'll be gone for functionally a year at any time.

would be interested to see where this goes. it will definitely play into my stay/go reserve/cut all ties when my adso is up.

I also wonder how they will deal with people who joined under the 90 day thing. talk about a bait and switch.

Well, I'll be checking this site for updates regularly. I have 9 years in the ARNG, but if they wipe the 90 day deployment limits, I'll have to consider pulling the plug. I don't know how many private practices can support 9 or 12 months away.

Bummer. I realize that the logistics behind 90 day deployments is challenging to accommodate, but it'll be a lot harder to accommodate when the Army RC loses half it's docs.

I doubt it will change in a short enough time frame to affect those who joined under the old policy of at all.

Always be prepared for Uncle Sam to change the contract after it's signed. Anything less is just poor planning.

Meh, I f the government upped the MSO from 8 years to 12, THAT would be a change to contract after it's signed.

While I love the 90 days boots-on-ground policy, anyone who joins thinking that policy is permanent needs to re-visit what the word "policy" means. In my ASR hat, I was very explicit to folks that the 90 day deployment could change with the swipe of a pen, and if that was a deal-killer, they should NOT join. I banged that drum in more than a few postings on this forum.

It's not a bait and switch. The Army needed a boatload of docs during a heavy tempo war. The tempo slowed down, so they're changing a policy that likely accounted for a lot of reservists joining. I think it's a poor decision, because it seems like the military is going to be more reliant on reserve corps in the decades to come, but there you go.

Yep. I'm signing the dotted line knowing that anytime I could have to go somewhere far away for as long as I'm needed.

Not something to take lightly.
