If I have the opportunity to specialize, I would like to specialize in pediatric dentistry. How difficult is it for a Canadian to match into this specialty? Thanks!

I would venture to assume that your citizenship status will matter only if you're applying to a state-funded program vs. private, very much like when you're applying to state-funded vs. private dental schools.

I even know of Canadians who've graduated from Canadian dental schools and successfully matched into residencies in the States, obviously after taking part 1 like the rest of U.S. applicants.

I personally think if you've graduated from a U.S. school, you'd sort of blend better with the rest of the applicants.

lots of canadians who went to dent school in both canada and u.s. in all residencies here. some programs accept more than others (when i interviewed omfs in rochester most were canadian actually).
just get the board score you need and stop worrying.
piko you are incorrect, residencies get funding the same whether canadian or U.S. because of the NAFTA rules, same accreditation, PGY status, etc. it's completely different than priv vs state funded dent school.
"blend in" ok now you're really talking out of your arse.

Our #1 guy is Canadian and he matched to peds. It matters by programs, as the previous posts have stated that funding for positions are from state and federal in most cases and most peds programs are hospital based.
