I was just thinking about this. Could the reason UCLA's admit stats look so weak in the US NEWS manual (something like a 32-33 mcat and 3.67 GPA) be because USNEWS includes the stats from UCR-UCLA biomedical program as being part of the regular UCLA admits. These UCR kids thanks to their special program could get into UCLA with relatively weak numbers and skew the numbers. Anyone concur. I mean there is no way that UCLA admit stats could be so low when compared to other lower ranked schools.

so when did a 32-33 and 3.67 mean low? are you crazy, or just jealous of UCLA medical students ??

those guys don't have to take the mcat. they do have to get a 3.8 by the end of undergrad tho.. which must be nerve-wracking...

I am almost positive that they do have to take the MCAT (talking to kids who I took summer classes with at UCR).

I 😍 UCLA b/c I hear they have a large Jewish community. I hope they like me too 🙂

Don't forget the Drew Admits...

i have to second this.

the stats look slightly above average for cali; almost exactly the same as the stats for UCSF matriculants (i think they have 33 and 3.7)

I think it's just that a 3.67 and 33 is lower then UCSD (a lower ranked UC) and the GPA is lower than other schools that are not as highly ranked (UPitt, Vandy, Emory) that are lower ranked than UCLA. Still impressive stats, but that's why these are top-20 schools.

The stats low????!!!! Of course they are for UCLA. These number are lower or almost equal to the numbers for both UCSD and UCI. UCLA is widely considered more competitive than both those institutions. How often do you see someone get into UCI and not UCLA compared to vice versa. Even looking at mdapplicants, the numbers for UCLA admits is much higher than UCI/UCSD admits. Average numbers for UCLA admits according to mdapplicants is 35.6 mcat/3.8 gpa which are way off the numbers USNEWS gives you. Something in the USNEWS data has to be skewing things around here.

the Drew students arent included in the UCLA stats.

The UCR students typically have a higher GPA but lower MCAT. You can see that from the most recent data (which might not be there anymore) - also, UCR students join UCLA during M3/M4 years, so they arent part of the admissions stats

UCLA is supposed to be very active in recruiting students from diverse backgrounds, and they are willing to have lower averages to have a more well rounded class.

I think it's a great school regardless of what U.S. News publishes.

it's such a small population.. it's all the anal people in the world (myself included) that post there 🙂 of course it says 35.6 or something!!
