Seems like everyone who goes into an interview will get waitlisted in some way or another if they are not accepted. Do you think this is the norm?

Pretty much all of the schools I interviewed at only accepted roughly 50% of those who made it to interviews. And I would say probably half of those who were eventually rejected were on a waitlist.

Of course this is just a ballpark figure

Dont count on the waitlist to get you in. some schools have, for example, 100 spots but based on previous trends, they will accept about 130 because they expect 30 people will go somewhere else. Those on the waitlist generally get rejected.

Case in point, if youre liked by the school, you wouldve already been accepted right away. If youre not, make other plans.

I know University of Houston College of Pharmacy takes about half of the people it interviews (roughly).
I think Texas Tech takes a little more than half of those that interview, not sure though....

Don't feel safe just because you got an interview... I know I didn't

I think you may be misinterpreting my question.

Say a school interviews 100 applicants. After the adcom meeting, they will accept 50. Do you think ALL the other 50 will be waitlisted or will some be rejected immediately? It seems like you won't get a straight out rejection after the interview,

Most schools will outright accept somewhere close to 1/2 of the people they interview. Of those interviewed but not accepted often about half of those are waitlisted and the other half are outright rejected.

I spoke to a former adcom individual when preparing for pharmacy school this year and the actual "interview" itself is a way for them to 1)see you 2)listen to how you convey answers from questions being asked and 3) just make sure your not some creep with good stats

You have to do something pretty stupid to get outright rejected after an interview (i.e forgetting to turn off your ringer and the lyrics are from ludacris's "move b*tch" lol)

I think all schools put everyone who are not accepted right away on the waitlist. They probably do that just in case of high turnovers in the end. I was on the waitlist for 3 schools but eventually got into one. I'm still hoping to get into my number 1 choice. 🙂

No, not all schools do that. One in particular went like this:

1200 applied
300 interviewed
128 accepted
50 waitlisted
122 rejected
