Possible to propose school to start Derm-Med program?

So my school does not have a Derm-IM combined residency program. Does anyone know if it would be possible to propose them to allow me to do this here?

I would definitely match IM at my school if I wanted to, and obviously I would have to be qualified enough to match derm as well since they wouldn't want this to be a backdoor into derm or anything.

Is this possible at all?

umm... will your Med-Derm proposal suit ACGME standards? Will you singlehandedly get it accredited?

You can search for some of the other derm/Im threads in the forum. Granted I too am biased since I did a derm - only pathway but I've yet to see a great application of derm/im training even within academic centers

I agree with asmallchild...some of the smartest general medicine derms were derm trained and just focused on learning the IM in internship and building on that throughout residency and beyond with inpatient consults, connecting with other mentors (even in other institutions), and constant reading of literature. I'm still undecided on derm/im training.

I think it could be possible. Just approach the departments and ask them. Maybe they will say no, but there's no harm in asking.

You need funding, ACGME approval which includes site visit, etc. The process would take a year atleast. Just apply for derm.

Honestly, why do you want to do med-derm? I am yet to see the need for additional training beyond the intern year.
