hi!

i've applied to both md/do school for fall '06 with only one interview..and i got waitlisted there. There is a good chance that should i not get accepted this fall , they will guarantee me acceptance for fall 07. However, i dont like to ride on uncertainty. Worse case scenario is that I dont get accepted into the school either for this year or next..which means I have to reapply. I do want to re-apply to mostly osteopathic schools and maybe a couple allopathic in my home state. I am planning to re take the mcat this august (it is the one aspect that i have the potential to greatly improve). My question is if i submit AACOMAS in this summer, will schools send me there secondaries without having my August MCAT just based on my app alone? i know that CCOM and AZCOM will do that based on minimum gpa. I am specifically wondering if TUCOM-CA will also send a secondary before having my august mcat score. That way, i can have my secondary and LOR's in early and my file will be complete in october with the mcat score. Thanks!

Heck, I had 2 acceptances before my August score came out. I *did* have old scores (too old to be valid), so I don't know if that played a factor (doesn't seem like it should have, unless they glanced at it and said "well, she'll do at least as well in Aug, and that's good enough for us").

Regardless of your taking the MCAT in August, the earlier you submit AMCAS and AACOMAS, the earlier you will get secondaries. For those schools with non-automatic secondaries, some will wait it out for your scores (and it doesn't make sense who does it since Duke asked for my secondary before the scores and UC Davis after??), some will just base it on some GPA numbers and LORs.

Good thing about submitting ASAP is that you'll get the bulk of your auto secondaries in July, some in August, and have time to complete them before others come in who wait for your scores. And then, having sent in the secondaries and LORs to each school that requested them, you will get a faster response for interviews once the scores ARE released (some schools have a pile of files saying "if _ score, then interview invite" without even having ot go to committee again).

Yes you can, but buyer beware. You might want to wait to see if you're competitive before you start shelling out secondary money. Just my 2 cents.
