Hey guys,
Just about a month before finishing my first year at podiatry school...overall i'm liking it and it's been a tough road but i'm just wondering if anyone has heard of transferring over from POD school to a DPT school?

I'm just wondering if this is even possible considering one is a surgical route and one's not, but i've only nearly completed my first year in POD school. Are there any PT schools that are "receptive" to individuals wanting to change health care professions to their school?

I would really appreciate anyone commenting if they're heard of anyone in their PT class that came/transferred from another type of health care schooling...any advice would be appreciated!

Thanks for any input/advice!!

If you had a competitive application, you are just as likely to get in as anyone. You would still need to do any outstanding pre-PT things you haven't done (eg. amass ~100 hours of PT observation in multiple settings, take GRE, take any pre-reqs you may not have taken as a pre-Pod student, get LORs from a PT or two, etc). The same application standards that apply to everyone would apply to you. Also, in general PT schools do not allow any sort of graduate credit to transfer, so from a pragmatic standpoint your year in Pod school would have been a big waste of time and money. It would still take you 3 years to earn a DPT.

So really there isn't such a thing as "transferring" from podiatry school to PT school. Perhaps there is some obscure circumstance where this is possible that I've never heard of, but as far as I'm aware you wouldn't be "transferring", you would just be quitting Pod school, becoming a pre-PT student, and applying to PT school. Make sure you have a very good story to tell Adcoms about why you did this. Honestly I think you would have to seriously hate podiatry for this to be even in the realm of a wise decision.
