So I have a possible job opportunity to be a patient care tech at a community hospital while in school. I'm a full time student but my work schedule would only be every other weekend, 8 hr shifts.

Do you think this would be a good job for me, as a premed? Will medical schools look favorably upon this?

Thanks.

Yes, and yes.

It's not particularly unique but I'm sure it would be a great experience for you, and that's what is most important (more so even than type of experience and hours worked). Lots of patient contact. The only thing I would try to avoid is overnight shifts, as I know those are common and can be very difficult on your sleep cycles in opposition to your class schedule and taxing your efficiency.

Sounds like a great job opportunity at least to me. However, you should pursue activities you are most interested in. Medical schools look favorably on ANYTHING you got a meaningful experience out of and can relate it to your passion for medicine. If you can eloquently express your experiences then this may be a powerful EC.

I was a PCT, it was a great experience. Keep your eyes open and try to notice things going on around your unit/rest of the hospital, might give you some things to discuss in interviews, etc.
