I'm in my second year of a 2 year postBac program at Harvard Extensions.
I took physics and gen chem last year.

I was planning on taking Bio and Orgo this year, but recently changed my mind, and dropped Bio, and signed up for a Kaplan MCAT class instead. I really want to be finished with the MCATs next spring, so I was planning on learning Bio through the Kaplan class, then actually finishing the Bio class next summer. This way, I'll be done with everything by next summer, and I can apply next summer

One of the main reasons I'm doing this is that I don't know anyone who finished Bio and Orgo in one year and had time to study for the spring MCATs. I really want to be done with everything by the end of next summer, apply, and start med school fall 2014, if I'm bogged down with studying for a very difficult Harvard Bio class I won't have time to study properly for the MCATs.

Questions:
Can I even sign up for the spring MCATs without having taken Bio (MCATs would be in the spring, I'd take Bio over the summer)?

Will med schools let me apply next summer even though I'll only only be finished with Bio in August?

Thanks for the help!
David

You can sign up for the MCAT with a third grade education. The fine folks who administer the test will be glad to take your money no matter what your chances of getting a decent score are. The only requirement is the fee.

You can apply for medical schools without taking bio. If you don't have many other science classes on your transcript then schools might put your application on hold until you can send them an update with your grade, but some won't care. I got accepted to a good DO school even though I still haven't done their prerequisite of six additional science credits.

Have you taken Biology I yet? If not, are you sure you will be able to learn it well enough through the Kaplan course? The MCAT requires some pretty detailed knowledge there, and you will be competing against a lot of biology major premeds. The second half of Biology II isn't really covered, but if you haven't done at least Bio I yet I'd take that before the MCAT.

Just so you know someone that did, I took Bio, Organic, Organic lab, and Physics last semester and simultaneously studied for an April 13th MCAT. Ended up with a 32P.

Thanks for the advice, I'd like to take the MCATs next spring, since I'm not taking Bio now, can I take Bio 1 over the winter and take Bio 2 next summer, and apply next summer?

Or another option could be, study for the MCATs this year, take Bio over the summer, then take the MCATs at the end of the summer and apply then?

Is the fall too late to apply?
