Post-Bac to Top Schools

If someone had a weak undergrad performance it's highly unlikely they will get into a top school, e.g. Harvard, Johns Hopkins, UCSF, etc. Even if they excelled in their postbacc, in that situation most people would be happy to get into any MD school and be less concerned with ranking.

In a very simplified manner: People go to SMPs because they did badly. The power of SMPs isnt enough to take them to a UPenn Med; it repairs GPAs to put one back in competition for med school in general, but not to the top schools

That's what I pretty much have in mind. I'm not caring too much about ranks but rather the location since I live near a top med school and would be great to save on housing. One can hope 😎 but you're right at this point I'm pretty happy to get into any MD school.

Define weak undergraduate years. Are we talking a GPA that can be repaired, or one that is pretty ****ty. What will their GPA look like after the post-bacc?

GPAs can't be fixed in real time. Right? If you get a 3.0 in 4 years of school, you need 4 more years, at a 4.0, just to get to a 3.5.
Those of us who've gotten in with 3.0-ish undergrad GPAs have done two things, generally:
1. not quit
2. committed financially ridiculous acts
With transcript damage, you have to do two things:
1. demonstrate strong academics and stability in a long stretch of recent work
2. get somebody to notice (by having an otherwise stunning app and applying early/broadly)
If you look in the low GPA thread, you'll see a couple thousand conversations where the details are laid out.

I have a 3.8 GPA with an excellent undergrad career as well as extensive experience in a hospital and medical office setting. I took the MCAT and did terrible (high teens) and am stuck now. By stuck I mean I have not applied to med schools for next cycle Fall 2012 so I am stuck with nothing to do for a whole year...
I want to do a masters in biomedical science program in one of the Chicago schools around me but I am not sure if they will accept me with this low mcat score. I do not want to take the GRE and cannot take the MCAT again after graduation (spring 2012)...Please advise.
I do not want to be stuck doing nothing for a whole year until I can apply for the 2013 cycle of med schools so that is why I want to do the BMS program.
Is anyone else in the same boat here????
