so say you attend like georgetown or Drexel post-bac and take the courses with the medical students and say you do exceptionally well and place out of some of the courses that you have to take your first year of medical school. So then can you finish in 4 years just like everyone else and move on to residency?

My understanding is you must take 4 years in med school starting with your matriculation to an MD program. You cannot use your SMP year towards that 4 year requirement. This is based on what Dr. Myers, the Georgetown SMP chair, said to someone at the physios yahoo group. However, you can place out of some courses and enroll in more electives - I am unclear how your SMP grades influence your class rank and whether or not that will affect (positively or negatively) your chances at a residency.

i'm a bit confused about this issue too... anyone else know?
Yay to recycling 5yr old threads...

Some SMP (not post-bac) classes will allow you to credit of a med school class or two. A lot of med schools are moving to Pass/Fail so your grade in the SMP doesnt really matter provided you pass
