I was just reading through a recent thread someone posted and this came to my mind....I am starting a post bacc this coming week, from scratch. I am becoming a full time student. My question is, I took Bio (not with lab) a couple of years ago, I would say about 7 years ago back in my undergraduate days, and got a D. This past summer I took Bio I with lab, and Chem I with lab. I did alright, B+ and B. But since it was summer and I took them both at a CC level, I dont feel like I got everything out of the classes. therefore, I am retaking everything in my formal post bacc program.

Now, I am wondering if I may be at a disadvantage when adcom's looks at all of transcripts. What do you guys think? 😕

The D from 7 years ago shouldn't be a big deal. Many non-trads did poorly in part or all of school, took some time in the real world, matured, went back to school, and did well. Adcoms have seen this story before, and if you do well in your post-bac, you stand a good chance of convincing some of them to give you a shot at med school too.

The CC courses might be more of a problem, since they were recent. I'd imagine some adcoms would consider a B in CC to be on the weak side (wheras a B at a 4-year might be acceptable). There's no cut and dry answer, it just depeds on your overall history (grades, personal story, etc.). Best thing to do is go out and whoop but in your post-bac and your MCATs, and don't get discouraged.

Good luck.
