I am a non-traditional student about to retake my prerequisites as post-baccalaureate courses. I am finding it difficult to find financial assistance for taking post-baccalaureate courses (not a program). Please advise.

I think a good portion of students go back into a degree granting program but just do it for additional federal assistance. I think once you are accepted you don't have to actually get a degree. I've heard that from several academic advisors as well.

I am registered to finish a Biology degree, though I don't intend on actually completing it. It's just so I can get the financial aid. 🙂

I got academic scholarships. Don’t tell them you won’t be completing.

I am in a similar situation. I am working full time right now to pay for part time evening classes, but I eventually hope to have one big year of full time science courses before taking the MCAT and applying. So just to clarify--even if you already have a degree, if you enroll in a 4-year degree program you can still receive financial aid/federal loans? I have also heard about that 1-year ~$12k limit for post graduates who have to take classes for admission to a graduate program.

I graduated in 2015 with a BS in Biology, but couldn't get into medical school because my MCAT was low. So when I went back to take some more classes in my undergraduate school, they told me I wouldn't get financial aid/loans unless I'm in a degree seeking program. Sure enough, I apply for a BA in Chemistry, was able to take upper-level bio and chem classes, and got financial aid. The thing is you don't have to finish that second bachelor for medical school because anything after your first degree is post-bacc, so... win win situation. Apply for another bachelor degree and you're all good.
