im currently in my 4th year of undergrad at a UC as a bio major. im gonna take the MCAT for the first time in april 05. at first, i wanted to just take a year off and not do any other schooling, but now im interested in doing a 1 yr post-bacc or masters program and i have no idea which schools offer these types and which subjects they are on and all that.

i really have no idea where to start looking, can someone please give me some links to 1 yr programs? basically, after i graduate in spring 05, im gonna submit my AMCAS app for med school. so in the year off before i get accepted in med school (hopefully!) i want to do a 1-yr program, is that possible?

thanks in advance 🙂

Hi,
BU has a Master's program that you can do in a year if you're willing to take classes in the summer.
Warning though, it's pricey...

A friend of mine however had an advisor tell him though "If you do this program, YOU WILL go to medical school"

Quote from the site listed above:
In fact, of the 661 graduates, 572 have been admitted to MD or MD/PhD programs at 74 allopathic medical schools across the country.

Good luck to ya!

Hi, if you plan on applying next year for the entering class of 2006, you can definitely do a post-bacc program after you graduate; but you do realize that classes for most post-bacc/masters programs start in the fall and won't finish their semesters till about January, right? What I mean is, by that time, most AMCAS schools will not be able to see these grades until that time; well into the application round. Even worse, most schools will have already filled almost all their available seats by the time spring semester has finished; so those grades may just arrive too late. I'm currently attending LECOM's post-bacc program with about six other UC grads: Davis, Riverside, Irvine, and Santa Barbara; I'm Riverside c/o 2000. Most people in the program are applying currently, to the in-house DO school and other schools. I, on the other hand, will wait 'till next year and apply for the entering class of 2006, so that the schools I'm applying to will see both semester grades. Also, if I did apply this year, I'd have to worry about filling out secondaries and such while taking some hard core classes (Anatomy, Pathology, Pharm/Tox, etc.)...I just wanna concentrate on doing well in my classes.

What a long post, damn...well to answer your question, open up the thread titled: "Post-bacc FAQ" at the top of this forum and you should find what you're looking for. If you or anyone else reading this has any questions don't hesitate to shoot me a PM; us UC grads gotta look out for each other, ya know.
