I was originally planning on doing a post bacc/master's for dental from 2018 to 2019. But I recently found out that there are a lot of post bacc/masters that have really late deadlines... Like June 30 for 2017-2018.

I am going to finish my Bachelor's this spring, and will be taking DAT on May 26. Should I apply right after DAT or because of rolling admission it's already too late and I should apply next year?

Thank you!

Call, or email, the Admissions for the programs you are interested in and ask.

Since you're looking to start next year, programs may have deadlines as late as September for that term if they have winter start sessions. A lot of programs have deadlines from Jan-April for fall sessions, and some have later deadlines into summer for both fall or winter sessions (if they provide the option). Double check the websites of the programs you're interested in to see the deadlines and contact the admissions offices for further clarification.

Thank you! Now I just want to ask how competitive are these programs? The percent admit rate kind of scared me... For example, if I don't get in any this year, my top choice is Western Uni's MSMS program since it's very close to my house so I can commute. The interview rate there is around 20% and the acceptance rate is around 10%...

The acceptance rate is almost as low as getting an interview for dental school. Would I be fine with a low GPA?

What other programs are you considering?

My second choice is probably Midwestern's in Arizona. Since I heard a lot about an interview with good GPA during the Master's... The others like Tuft, BU, Georgetown, Temple are probably my next options.

what about NYU oral bio? has anyone heard about this program

If your looking west coast, University of Northern Colorado has a masters in biomedical sciences.

I highly recommend Temple's, if you are looking into interview rates and acceptances. It is 100% interview rate and last year was 85% acceptance rate into a dental school.

What GPA and DAT would I need to get into their Post Bacc's? And would the end of May be too late to apply for the Post Bacc?

Just to piggyback on this thread, I have a question: do these Masters programs have to be through the dental schools (i.e. BU, Temple, etc.)? Or can I just get a Masters of biological sciences at a random college nearby not affiliated with dentistry? If I have to resort to doing a Masters, I don't want to have to uproot myself and move for this causing me more financial loss for living expenses.

I am not 100% on what GPA, but half of the class has less than a 20AA DAT, because they incorporate a DAT course within the program. March 15 is the deadline, and they start early June.

You do not have to do a masters through a dental school. There are a lot of masters programs that are just from random colleges nearby like you said. As long as you make A's at a decent masters program, then you will show the adcoms that you can handle the rigorous science courses. However, programs that go through the dental school will incorporate dental knowledge and dental experience like the one I am in right now, so that is the fun part instead of just taking biochem, anatomy, histology, etc.

True, true. Thanks for the response!

I did my Master's at Barry in Miami, FL. I highly recommend their program and I know they admit people for the summer, spring, and fall semesters
