Hello everyone,

Here is my situation. I am about to graduate to my undergraduate institution this winter, and I am about to send in the AADSAS application for this cycle (I know it's really late, but I just wanted to see if I can get everything together). I also have a low GPA (Cum:2.92, Sci: 2.5ish) and DAT was not so hot either AA:17 TS:16 PAT:17. I have already taken a good deal of sciences courses including basic bio, chem, o-chem, physics, biochem, physiology, human anatomy, neurobiology etc.

Anyways, I am now looking into 1-2 year non-thesis post-bacc and Masters Programs in Biomedical Sciences. I am looking at these: Midwestern MBS, UMDNJ MBS, Barry MBS and SFSU Post-bacc. What do you guys think is the best way to improve my chances for dental school (besides retaking the DAT, which I will do eventually).

Thanks!!😀

First, I would really try to get atleast you cum but ideally both gpas over 3.0, some schools will screen u out. Next u need to improve your DAT score, shoot for 21+. Lastly, you may want to invest in a masters program. It's not impossible but realize it will take lots of hard work, sacrifice and determination! good luck!

What do you guys think of these programs?

A couple of my friends are in the same situation as you. What I have suggested to them is to find a program that is most suitable for them and that they will enjoy studying. In turn, you will have good marks and can have a good explanation for your choice at your dental school interview. As well, you can always enroll in upper level undergraduate courses as a graduate student.

UMDNJ MBS- you are allowed to take dental physio and dental biochem (only 2 dental classes, 1 per semester) the thing is the admission department sends u a form and u indicate if u want to be considered for these courses. Then the admissions staff or scheduling people will decide if you can handle them, and register for u those classes. So you could end up doing the UMDNJ program w/o taking dental courses because u were not recommended for them, really sucks but if UMDNJ is where u wanna go i heard its a good program.
