Hi! So, I didn't get into D-School for 2007. No worries here though, I'll reapply and reapply.... someone's gotta take me!

Well, here's the deal...
TS=20
AA=20
PAT=17
I'll retake DATs in July...

I'm graduating in May with a BS in Bio... and so far I've gotten into the MBS at UMDNJ's grad school.... the Post-Bacc PreMedical program at Duquesne, and the MS in cellular and molecular biology at Tulane...

GPA=3.21
Science GPA=2.98

Where do I go from here? I want to reapply for 2008... which is weird because nothing will really have changed in my app... just a few more hours of work/volunteering/research... and my Spring grades will be added.

Any advice would be priceless! Thanks guys!

When did you submit your app?

Masters. IMHO, post-bacc programs are preferably for those that have not taken prereqs or alot of sciences.

GL!:luck:

wow, I'm in the exact same boat (almost). Graduated in Dec, didn't get in for 2007, re-applying for 2008, re-taking the DAT in July.

GPA: 3.37
sci GPA: 2.98

AA:19
TS:19
PAT:15 :scared:

So I looked at both masters and post-bacc's as well, esp the New Jersey masters program. The thing is, that most schools don't require that you complete a post-bacc, but they DO require you complete a masters. Also, if its not a traditional masters with a thesis, they may not look at it as a "real" masters . . . dunno something to think about.

I decided to do a post-bacc at UC Berkeley, so we'll see. I also won't really have anything substantial in my new app, but hopefully my DAT scores will improve.

Please message back if you get any good feedback/info as our situations seem reeeeeaaaaally similar 🙂

I'm in that boat too, lol. I totally agree with you, getting a master w/o thesis is almost like cheating. I talked to an assistant prof in a d-school and he suggested me to do a thesis cuz it'd make my appl so much stronger.

Umm, I'm doing non-thesis masters. 🙄

the umdnj masters is amazing in that i can complete it non-thesis with 30 credits, or with a thesis and 25 credits. apparently i can finish either in one year if i really buckle down... and i definitely plan to.

so no one here suggests my applying for '08? just wishful thinking i guess... i graduated ugrad in 3 years... and i wish i could save that year... instead i'm adding a year.
a little advice for all you overachievers still in ugrad... DONT RUSH! ahh!!!

what courses did you include when computing your science GPA of 2.98?
Just curious.
Thanks

It's the science GPA from the aadsas application website that was calculated from my transcripts...

I'm currently waiting on news for the Tulane MS in cell molec bio. When did you apply and when did you hear back?

I know another SDN member who has been already accepted "America1", and another who's applying still. Heh, that makes 4 of us, its a small world.

So I was reeeeaaaaallly considering the NJ program too . . . but I'm in San Francisco, and its just seems like way too much to move all the way there, and do this program, pay $$$$$, and not be able to apply for 2008. Also, I looked at it as maybe the masters would help me get in, but what else would it do for me? Since i'm totally determined to be a dentist, whats a masters degree gonna provide for me in the future?

I dunno . . . its just soooooooooooo freaking frustrating!!! why can't they just take me?? (done venting now🙂)

Let me know what you decide . . . or if you discovered some extra facts/pros

Thanks!

I got into Tulane's one year masters in Cell bio..
They don't take a long time to get back to you like some schools.
I submitted my application at the end of February, got notice that my app. was complete around mid March, and got my acceptance at the end of March....

If you still haven't heard back, I think it's best you give them a call... They are really nice and are more than willing to help you out.
