Ive searched through and read a majority of the post-bacc threads, and while Ive learned a lot of useful information, I havent been able to figure out in which direction I should head given my background.
I just turned 32 and have a bachelors and masters in engineering from the same Ivy. My undergrad GPA, both cumulative and sciences, is about 3.65 (with honors distinction). (Aside from a couple of semesters of spanish and a couple of semesters of economics, most of my classes were in engineering, math, and science.) My grad GPA is all As and one B. My now-15-year-old SAT score is a rather low 1240. (But hey, this was back in the day when you didnt study for the SAT, take prep courses, etc.!) Ive never taken the GRE since it wasnt required for continuing through to the masters program at my undergrad institution.
As for the pre-med reqs, as an undergrad I took one semester of bio (w/ lab) and two semesters of general chem (both w/labs). Im sure I had exposure to a lot of the physics concepts covered in the physics sequence through various engineering courses. I also have a course on my transcript that was required for the engineering degree yet was offered through the physics department, but the heck if I can remember what was covered in that class. 🙂 In any case, as best I know, Ive never taken the formal pre-med physics sequence. All of this coursework was completed more than 10 years ago, so I would be in no shape to tackle the MCAT without re-taking the courses Ive already taken, in addition to completing those I have yet to take.
On the EC side of things, Ive been volunteering at a hospital for about 3 hours a week for the past 3 years.
Ideally, Id like to get into a formal post-bacc (for the structure, support, idea of completing the reqs in shortest time, etc.) and a top one if possible (for the best chance of gaining med school acceptance). From what Ive been reading, however, it sounds like I might be ineligible because some of the pre-med reqs appear on my undergrad transcript, not to mention that Im a bit on the older side. 🙂
Can anybody offer any advice as to how I should proceed in terms of post-bacc? Im getting the sense that Im a tweener: too much previous science exposure to be considered for the top formal post-baccs, yet too little science (or science taken way too long ago!) for an SMP-type program. What do you suggest I do?
