Hello Everyone,

Here's my dilemma....I graduated with a 3.18 GPA and 2.69 Science GPA obviously LOW 🙁 extremely LOW!!! So I've been considering a Post Bacc or Special Master's Program in order to enhance my academic record and reinforce my science background since I graduated with a Criminal Justice Degree and a Minor in Biology. From your experience, is this a good way to go? Do a lot of people with the GPA problem go this route? What are the chances I would get into a Post Bacc or SMP with my currect GPAs? And mainly what are some programs that have a good linkage to their Medical Schools (whether MD or DO)? Any advice would be greatly appreciated 😀

Well, here's the thing. For most SMPs (Talking MD) you need a minimum 3.0 since most medical school have a minimum GPA of 3.0. As Vamp said, you don't need a formal post bacc, just take science classes to boost that sciGPA up to 3.0, than kill the MCAT and apply to SMP programs (which are designed for cases of low GPA and high MCAT). Easier said than done, but this would be the best way.

If you're ok with DO, than just retake classes you did poor in and your GPA should go up rather quickly. Should be ready to apply in a year or two assuming you start making A's from here on out and do well on your MCAT.

Good luck.
