I'm currently a transfer student at a CSU (California State University). I came from a community college and majored in History.

I haven't done any pre reqs at the CC level nor have I at the CSU. I may be able to squeeze in 3-4 BCPM as electives. The unit ceiling at my schools prevents any more than that.

I know I need to do some a post bacc.

My question is:

Would it be better to do a diy post bacc at the same CC I went to followed by taking the MCAT and applying to SMPs and medical schools? (I noticed that SMPs require an MCAT and an AMCAS application).

Or

Will a formal post bacc be better for me? UC consortium and programs along those lines.

Do you know if CSUs offer any formal post-bac program? One that requires an application, interview, etc.

I presume that you are majoring in History for your 4 year degree as well. Your best path would be to either planning 5 years as UG thus getting more time to get prereqs or doing a year after degree in an informal DIY at the same school as a non-matriculating or Continuing Ed student. Since you are not a science major, your taking prereqs at a CC wouldnt be seen as much as trying an easier path than other students, but still not the most impressive. However, if that is the path you need to take, then do so and do well. An SMP is not really needed by you at this time; not worth the time and expense

Although I may not raise red flags, do you think I would be docked for the "lack" of rigor at a CSU? Would it be worth going to a UC extension?
