Hey everyone, I've been thinking about applying to a pretdent post-bacc/SM program, but don't know if any schools will take me with my poor stats:

GPA: 2.5 (BS, cell/molec bio) failed 3 classes fresh year and have repeated with b's, but my school doesn't replace grades.
GRE: 580V,680Q taken once with minimal prep, so definitely can bring up quant.

my last 8 semesters were 3.4's and above.

can anyone help me?? i've been looking into programs like tufts and creighton, but they all seem crazy competitive--it doesn't seem like i'll stand a chance esp. since the class sizes are so small and the application process has already begun.

any thoughts/advice would be greatly appreciate!

Well, the good news is that many people do postbacs to boost their GPAs. However, many postbac programs are looking for students who have had reasons for their poor grades...such as work, illness, ect. Many of these programs are also looking for individuals who are under represented in the dental profession or whom come from disadvantaged backgrounds. This could mean socially, economically, or educationally disadvantaged. But you know truthfully.... even if you don't get into a formal postbac you can do your own informal postbac. I had many friends who did this and they got into dental school.
If you are not accepted to one of these programs, its not the end of your dental career. If you are determined you'll get there!

Have you considered doing a special masters program instead of a post-bac, since you were already a science major? I graduated w. a major in East Asian studies, did an informal post-bac at my state college, and then applied to UMDNJ's masters program. The program can be completed in 1-2 years, and in my experience, it really helps. Even though my undergrad gpa wasn't stellar for Dental School admissions- 3.1, I managed to pull a 4.0 in my masters program, got some experience in a research lab, and pulled 3 interviews- 1 acceptance, 1 wait-list so far.

👍

I did the same masters program and i'll be attending njds in the fall. My undergrad was 3.0 (with a much lower science gpa haha) 3.9 in Masters. 3 interviews - 1 acceptance, canceled my other interviews

Point being, you should give consideration to the special masters program. It's proven to be very successful to a lot of people i've talked to. Whatever you decide, best of luck!

:luck: Lucky! Congrats. NJDS was my first choice, but sadly- that was where I was wait-Listed!

So there are a number of them out there but I think you may have missed this falls application cycle.. you may have to wait till the next cycle opens up...but anyways..I can tell you that the BU MAMS oral health program might meet what you are looking for. While it is competitive they do consider everyones situation etc. in their selection. look them up a lot more information on their website. It worked out great for me so far.

Thanks for all the input guys, I really appreciate it!
So now I'm considering BU, Tulane, Tufts, and NOVA. Are there any others I should be aware of?
