Post Back Students-Medical Missions program before you start

Hi,

I was thinking of starting a medical missions program for post bac students to see if medicine is really what they want to devot their life for.

I was thinking of starting this mission in India because they could really use your help and they have a variety of specilists you can work with.

I want to start this company to have students shadow doctors in India for 2-4 weeks. They can choose from surgery, dentistry, oncology, nehrology, radio and various other specialities. If you have prior medical experience (EMT, etc) they might even let you do some minor procedures, under their supervision.

I am thinking about starting this service especially for post bac students. Before I start I want to know if this is a viable business.

I am thinking of a little over $999 for the service. This can really solidify if you want to go into medicine and in what speciality you might be interested in.

What do you guys think? Would there be enough business? If this service was presented to you, would you be interested?

Your idea is a good one. However, I think most Premed / Post-Bacc students would probably shadow a local physician (cost, location, etc.) before heading to India to see if medicine is what they really want as a "profession."

Seeing medicine overseas firsthand would be great. You have to remember most people on this forum want to practice in the US and not overseas (although I would love to practice overseas with Doctors Without Borders, Mercy Ships, etc.). Your idea sounds like a great opportunity.

Although post-bacc students are "career change" students for the most part, I think many people in post-bacc programs want to increase their GPAs, MCAT, overall credentials...and already know that they want to "do" medicine.

Oh yeah-- you might want to edit your post as you have disclosed your ENTIRE plan. 😉
