As we all come from different places in life, w/ myriad life experiences I thoght it would be cool to know what type of non trads are applying...

I can start..Came to this country as an immigrant, first generation to graduate college. Graduated in 2008, majored in biology GPA 3.175😡, went for a Masters GPA 3.4😡,
Worked in bench research throughout undergraduate years, and beyond, out of this 11/2 year at a ivy league. NO PUBLICATIONS😡, blame the PI...
health related volunteering: by the time I enter med school 4yrs: out of this 11/2 spent in lab section for a health clinic, rest as a HIV counsllor.
non-health related volunteering: Spent a 11/2, living in S.America, teaching English, and doing random health work.
Currently, working part time for a biotech company, and going back to take advanced science courses, to improve GPA.
Personal: married w/ a child.. Speak 2 languages besides English.
Planning on applying to med schools next year for 2015, MCAT test date: Feb 2014 sometime...🙂
I never thought I would go to medical school, I did health work because I enjoyed it, until one day(after my daughter was born), a light bulb went inside my head.

Greetings,

Thank for starting the thread. Graduated 2009 with a degree in Biomedical Science with a minor in Public Health 3.8 GPA. Had my daughter, got really sick and then decided to get my BSN through an accelerated program, working as an RN. I want to apply for 2015 as well and want to take MCAT in March 2014. Volunteer with victims of domestic violence and research on teen dating violence and HIV. Always wanted to practice medicine but always pysched myself out..Im ready and determined 🙂

Graduated in 2003 with a degree in Athletic Training/Sports Medicine triple minors in coaching, exercise science and nutrition (c3.43). Got a position as an AT for a local medical center contracted to a local high school. During this time I completed my masters in kinesiology concentration in sports administration (3.0). My entire job is patient contact. So almost ten years. I also am the supervisor for the student athletic training aid club, volunteer with the football leadership program, volunteer all sorts of stuff through the high school I work at.
No post grad research, but I did have a senior research project that I got to present in Puerto Rico, Minnesota, Michigan, Illinois.
I'm divorced with a 6 year old diva 🙂
