I am quite curious about something... If you have been dismissed for academic (bad grades) or behavioral (code of conduct violation) reasons, how difficult is it to get into another school?

I know that there are those out there with some expierence with this and I would really like to hear your opinions on this difficult topic.

If you were dismissed from a US medical school for academic or behavioral reasons, then it's about as close to impossible to gain entrance into another US school-- there are simply too many other qualified applicants out there for a school to want to take a chance on a student with any kind of questionable history. You might have a chance at a Caribbean school, though. One poster, CoolCucumber, was in some academic trouble and I think she's heading to SGU or Ross next year. But she's had to start all over again, repeating first year.

If you're talking undergraduate institutions, if you were dismissed for bad grades, then I think that it is possible to get your act together, gain admission to another school and make a comeback. If you were expelled for academic dishonesty, then you're in a lot of trouble. People with a history of cheating face a very tough battle when it comes to gaining admissions. If you code of conduct violation was being a little noisy in your dorm room during a party, then it's probably not a big deal. Then again, if you were just being a little rowdy or were a bit tipsy, I'm guessing you wouldn't have been expelled.

Whatever happens to you, good luck. Obviously no one on the internet knows the specifics of your situation, so the best thing to do would be to get in touch with a pre med advisor or something.

I may be misinterpreting your post, but I was forced to go on a LOA (dismissed for a semester) during my undergrad for low grades. I got back in and completed my degree with no (further) problems. If I wanted to go to MIT from there, then that would be hard, but a high GPA is much, much more important than the institution you get that GPA at (in the med school ADCOM view). Thus, I don't believe it would have been that hard to bump up my GPA at another less prestigious ugrad institution, despite my low grades.

It took me three application cycles to get my acceptance. It is not impossible to get in despite having been dismissed - it just takes perseverance.

I got accepted to a different US allopathic school after being kicked out a couple years ago. My gpa was crappy but my MCAT was out of this world and I had insane amounts of research and qualifications. I also got accepted to SGU and Ross for 2007 but pushed back my acceptance to reapply to US schools.

Oh yeah and SGU/Ross accepted the courses I had passed, so if I had gone there I would have only been there a semester or two before I was a second year student.

i have a conduct violation on my app and thus far it's kept me out of med school, but i haven't been kicked out of any schools, just got 2 Fs and suspended for a semester. cheating sucks. don't do it hahaha.

since my indiscretion, i've returned to my undergrad university, retook those classes and received an (A+ and A) in the classes and graduated from the same institution i screwed up at. this year looks very positive for me, so there's always hope. just make sure you talk to adcoms if you have something like a dismissal or conduct violation and figure out your best course of action.
