If you get a post-doc doing something specific (such as evaluations/therapy for only one specific disorder), working in a specific setting or with only one population, will this limit you when it comes time to work on your own? Any suggestions for how to expand your areas of expertise & practice given a limited post-doc?

People who take specialized post-docs do so so they can get jobs sworking woth that population.area. That's the point.

That said, it doesn't erase your training history, so if place is in need, you still have are still a licensed psychologist.

Thanks, erg.

So can one do more than one post doc to become specialized in two areas? I know this takes time away from higher pay and such, but is it possible?

Yep, you certainly can if you want. I've seen a handful of people who've done a one- or two-year research fellowship and then followed it up with a two-year neuropsych postdoc, for example.

So would neuropsych and psychotherapy be possible?

You could do, say, neuropsych and then something like a trauma or health psych fellowship if you really wanted, sure. Although I'd suggest you try to save yourself the extra year by just getting additional psychotherapy experience while on your neuropsych fellowship (in addition to getting plenty while in grad school and on internship).

Very doable. I'm on n-psych fellowship and do minor rotations involving therapy on the SCI unit as well as PTSD treatment.
