In years past, I know some programs have communicated with applicants, from ranked to match phone calls to just emails indicating interest, and I'd be interested to know if anyone's heard anything this season. And, yes, I realize this is neurotic and knowing won't change the outcome at this point, but I'm curious.

Same here. Some thank you cards/emails from USC, Loma Linda, U of L, and MCW.

Nothing else to report? I've had responses to about 50% of my thank you notes, but nothing since then. Anybody know which schools traditionally contact applicants versus the ones that have no contact policies?

Einstein-Montefiore sent out generic typed out thank yous each which were personalized by interviewers. Yale sent out a few post-interview e-mails to everyone.

I have received a handful of e-mails from interviewers before I've sent out thank yous. I've probably heard responses from 30% of my thank you notes.

UPenn seems to shun post-interview contact and there was a piece of paper in the folder specifically saying they do not expect it and it will not change anything. The PD at BU also made it clear that no one should write him a "love letter" because it is stupid and means nothing.

I think in general programs are moving away from post-interview contact including professing their love for applicants or telling them they are ranked to match. In some of the other specialties with smaller programs post-interview contact seems more common.

I kind of wish there would just be a policy of no post-interview contact and have a point person for questions because it creates anxiety for people like me as well as the OP. I've chosen to believe that nothing matters after you leave the interview.

has anyone heard back from the Brigham?

Some programs still email, few call, many shun post-interview communications. It's still courtesy to thank your interviewers in 1-2 days by email (several by cards but only if you're sure they will receive it). And it probably helps (but may not) by telling your favorite program they are truly your number one, if you choose to do that.

Regardless, don't use post-interview communications for your own ranking process, and don't use it to fuel your anxiety either.

I am not overly worried about post-interview communication and it will not affect my ranking decisions. However, I'm curious to ask again - has anyone heard from the Boston programs apart from replies to thank you notes? Responses to "you're my #1" notes, unsolicited emails/calls, etc. I'm wondering because there seems to be much less discussion of this type of communication compared to years past.

Hey buddy

Heard nothing from mgh. BID sent a friend a rank to match email

I have not received one ranked to match email.

Now I'm getting a little nervous...

serious or not, as long as you interviewed at more than say... 6-7 (I'd say 10 to be safe) places and are ranking all of them, you will match

Not to fuel the neuroticism and cause jdh to (understandably) spazz, but does anyone know of any other programs besides BIDMC (mentioned above) that have sent out ranked-to-match emails or calls? Feel free to PM if you'd prefer.

I haven't heard from any besides a response to my email

Yes. I received an unsolicited email a few weeks ago from BIDMC so they have definitely sent some. I debated posting as I'm not sure how helpful (or disruptive) it is to know. I've decided I'm not a fan of the post interview communication game, but I figure it's fair to know who is playing

I know of people who have received calls from sinai, columbia, cornell, washu, emails from utsw, stanford, yale, duke, and physical letter from BID

Ditto with respect to emails from Mayo, calls from Wisconsin.

FWIW UW, Colorado, and UCLA all explicitly said on their interviews or via post interview emails that they are not doing any indiviualized post-interview correspondence. These programs got points in my book for doing this.

Also Northwestern sent letters, apparently different types to different people.

I thought Cornell explicitly said that they would not be doing individual post-interview communication either...? Hmm

IDK what the different types of letters from NW are; I received a positive but noncommittal one soon after my interview

i got a personal letter from the NW PD shortly after the interview and the another personal email about a week ago from him as well.

Penn did this as well

Wow. This is scary...considering I haven't heard anything from ANYONE including some of these programs...

Indeed. reading this thread makes me very nervous too. I have gotten nothing. And it sounds like my top 3, based on what's been said above, have communicated with some applicants.

Same here. Reading this thread ruined my day even though I know I shouldn't let it get to me....

I also thought Cornell said they wouldn't be participating in individual post-interview communication??

i wouldn't worry about the post interview communication. don't let it bother you whether you've gotten it or not. rank as you would otherwise

I should probably clarify here. My friend said he received an unsolicited phone call from either the chief or the senior resident to answer any further questions about the program. No mention of ranking during the conversation actually.

Penn did this as well

I'm surprised. They made such a big deal about having a policy of no post-match communication, so much so that they even sent out an email earlier this week reminding everyone about this...

I think it's helpful to clarify the contents of these communications from programs. I had previously assumed everyone was saying these were all ranked to match emails, but sounds like some of these are just courtesy follow-ups, of which I got a couple and didn't think anything of them. I haven't actually personally gotten any ranked to match communication, although I know of people who have.

Thanks for the clarification. The overall sense I got during interviews was that more and more programs are avoiding these types of rank-to-match notifications. It's still a little discouraging to not get any when some programs are still doing so.

i think candidates just want to feel desirable and that they're valued and respected by programs and would thus rank a program just a tad higher if they get a personal communication from the PD.

no. when i said penn did as well, i was referring to the post that said they did not send out any post-interview communications. and they didn't (to my knowledge)

For the record, I haven't received any unsolicited letters/emails either. I didn't even get a response after telling my #1 that they were my #1.

It does seem that programs are leaning towards no post-interview communication, especially if they know that there's a chance that anything can end up being posted on the internet.

Yeah a couple programs told us 'no post interview communication unless its a legitimate question'.

I know it's basically moot now and we should just wait to find out but I can't rest. So help a guy out. I heard that people got unsolicited emails from UCSF, Stanford, UCLA? Those are basically my top places so it would help me sleep better and go back to lurking if I knew if anyone did, so I can move on to my next phase for obsessing until match.

stanford sent out stuff to some people. dont think ucla did. unsure about ucsf

From talking to my friend who also happens to be a crazy rockstar, yes to Stanford, yes to UCSF, and no to UCLA.

anyone receive unsolicited emails from UCSF besides APD non-specific thanks & inquiry for questions? have applicants matched there without a 'we love you' note from PD?
